Part of the Architecture Design Track within the undergraduate Harvard College is the opportunity to cross-register into courses within the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). This project is the Final Studio project as part of a graduate seminar entitled "Aperture". The design brief called for an intervention at Walden Pond in Concord, MA in connection to Thoreau's transcendentalist ideals. These ideas are then incorporated into a specific aperture study within a design project. This design looks at the phenomenon of the aperture on the oblique, and the way a proposed yoga studio situated at the "Little Cove" on Walden Pond can directly recall Thoreau's cabin through privileged apertures while simultaneously utilizing the repetition of angled Fins to obscure opposing views . Included within this design conception is an exploration of the materiality and design of the aperture itself, which is detailed in construction drawings. A physical model is also developed to further work through some material and formal design considerations.
